Mercy…Can We Extended It?

Mercy how to extend itWhat is mercy? Mercy may be defined as NOT treating us as we deserve it. God’s mercy is overwhelming if we stop and try to understand it. God never treats us as we deserve it, but he treats us according to Jesus’ merit. It’s not who we are and/or what we did, but is who Jesus is and what Jesus did.

I get extremely overwhelmed and heart broken when I see that when it comes to our personal life we can talk about God’s mercy and how wonderful is that we are not judged by our merits, but it’s all about God’s mercy and love. And without God’s grace we would never make it…but can we extend His mercy and grace too others?

“I am sick and tired of all these born again Christians” my boss busted out after I took a stand against the “Secret”. I told her – Rose, listen why should I believe and worship the creation (Universe) when I can worship the Creator (God).  “and by the way why are you tired of these born again Christians?” –asked. “Because all they do is talk, I want to see that is real, I want to see the difference, and I want to see that they are better, that they walk the walk, not just talk the talk”. I looked right in her eyes and said: “You’re right! And I am sorry if you ever had a different experience with these born again Christians”.

Since then I can hear her every step of my life, every day as I interact with other people: Lord do they see You in me?

“Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning” ~ Lamentations 3:23 what a comfort we have in this verse. God’s mercy is new every morning. Is it mine? Am I ready to extend this great mercy to those around me whom don’t deserve it?

“Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” ~ Matthew 7:20 Jesus said the only way we can identify the real Christian versus the fake one is by their fruits.

The world around us is tired of great preaching and nice talks, they want to see the real thing. Am I real? Am I representing Jesus in a real way? Do my words and actions coincide?

So what is the fruit? “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law”. ~ Galatians 5:22-23 If we call ourselves Christians and say that God’s Spirit is in us then this fruit has to be visible in our life. I want to stop and realize that this IS one fruit. The Bible says the fruit is, it does NOT say that the fruits are, but the fruit is. This means that we should own it all of them as one, not because we are able to produce it, but because God’s Spirit living is us produces this fruit.

If you and I say that we are Christians saved by grace, but we don’t extend that grace and mercy for others, can anyone really believe us?
